The most recent creation for Casanova di Neri is the IrROSSO. This celebrated result is a union between Sangiovese and small addition of our own grapes from different varieties: it gives the idea of a young red, significant but with easy drinkability and is linked to the characteristics of its native territory, with an unforgettable Casanova di Neri stamp. It is a blend of Sangioese (90%) and Colorino 10%. Depending on the market this wine can either be labeled as ‘Rosso di Casanova di Neri’ or ‘Irrosso di Casanova di Neri’.
The 2014 Rosso di Casanova di Neri (Sangiovese/Colorino) is soft, juicy and expressive, with lovely overall depth and balance. Dark red stone fruits, flowers and spices meld into the pliant, expressive finish. The Rosso di Casanova is made from the estate’s young Rosso and Brunello vines, along with fruit from the Sant’Antimo appellation.
This Sant’Antimo wine has received good scores from various critics: the 2013 vintage was given a score of 90 by Vinous Antonio Galloni. This vintage is the perfect balance among elegance, opulence, structure and complexity. It is aged in oak barrels for 15 months.
The vintage gave a very drinkable Irrosso but capable of developing in to a richer wine over the years. The high pleasantness is combined with balance, harmony and velvety tannins typical of all Casanova di Neri wines.
The notes of cherry and violet prevail on small red fruits and balsamic hints while on the palate is a good balance between acidity and sweetness of tannins with a moderate alcoholic impact. Finish is bright and clean.
