The wine pours in a deep purple hue with floral hints, along with leather and spice. With notes of sweet plums Sweet plums and blackcurrants from the Merlot and cherries and spice from the Shiraz, Merlot-Shiraz 2013 is a very accessible and smooth with fruity flavours lingering on the palate. On the palate there is some plum, currant, leather, toffee, and just a touch of tobacco.This red blend is a must with every braai, but also suited to rich game dishes.
The vineyard, located at more than 3,200 feet above sea level in South Africa’s highest vineyard has cool continental climate, where snow can fall on the vines in winter and northwesterly breezes fan them in the warm summers, combined with unpolluted air and crystal clear waters, make this the ideal terroir for producing wines of grace.
The winemaker, Nieuwoudt family has been making wines at the Cederberg vineyard for five generations. But today there is new excitement and energy at the property with David Nieuwoudt now at the helm. Nieuwoudt’s love of wine has resulted in wines with remarkable personality and appeal.
