The very first La Playa wine, named for Chile’s magnificent Pacific coastline and the vibrant rivers that nourish the Vina La Playa vineyards, was introduced in 1987 by the Axelsen family of California. The Axelsens also own CabCorp Wine Merchants in Marin, California, established in 1980 and the exclusive importer and distributor of La Playa wines in the United States and Canada.
A diverse array of wines are made by this producer including those from grapes Rare Red Blend, Merlot, Viognier, Chardonnay – Viognier, Sauvignon Blanc, Carmenere, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Pinot Noir, and Bordeaux Blend Red.
The wine, using 100% Chardonnay is light yellow in color. Ripe melon, peach, pineapple and orange aromas and flavors one the nose, with a subtle floral quality building with air. The palate is spongey and offers only mild acidity to boost slightly mealy citrus and persimmon flavors. All in all, the wine pleases. Uncomplicated and easy to drink. The fairly sweet fruit flavors are nicely balanced and checked by a slight dry chalkiness on the finish.
